This 1979 Suzuki LJ81 is owned by Joe and Dana Marshall who run Mule Expedition Outfitters in Washington State. They refer to it as their micro overlander, a fitting name given its size and modifications. The 1979 LJ81 was a pickup produced by Suzuki, and was based on the SJ20 model that preceded the SJ30 Samurai.
They modified the front bumper by cutting out the center section, and creating a winch box. Then they added a TJM ATV winch (the vehicle only weighs 1,800 lbs) and recovery points with Ox Box shackles. They also painted the bumper black – because they wasn’t loving the white.
A rack was built in the bed to mount a TJM roof top tent, and high lift jack.
After the bed rack was built, it was temporarily removed so the bed could be covered with Rock-It Liner.
It’s a cool little truck, and we’d like to see some photos of it overlanding in the future.
